People are grumbling about changes to their favorite downtown Vietnamese spot under new ownership. I went to see if those grievances are sound. And I asked the proprietors to explain the updates.
Have enjoyed Saigon Cafe in my thirty years here but hadn’t gone recently. Perhaps because it hadn’t changed. Now this wants me to try it again. See how the stuff I knew is now, try some new stuff. Particularly that tamarind based mojito.
I’ve been working up the gumption to go after pretty much everyone I know who has gone hadn’t had their preferred experience. But I want to give it a try to see for myself.
I left for the military for a year and came back so excited to eat my noodle bowl and now it’s called a bun bowl and it’s so flavorless and nasty. It’s so sad. I’d do anything for my OG combination noodle bowl.
That’s fair. I know a lot of old regulars are sad their favorite dishes are gone or changed. Have you tried any other Vietnamese spots in town to see if anyone else is hitting something close to the OG bowl at Saigon?

Report back if you wish!

Let me know what you encounter, and what you eat there.
No Saigon cafe is absolutely ruined now.
